Melissa believes that the mental, emotional, and relational difficulties individuals face stem from the inherent brokenness of the world we inhabit. This perspective acknowledges that many of the challenges we encounter are not solely personal failings but are also influenced by broader societal and environmental factors. In the context of counseling, we will collaboratively delve into the myriad factors that shape your life, both historically and in the present. This exploration will include a thorough examination of influences from family dynamics, friendships, career paths, social surroundings, and cultural backgrounds. By assessing how these elements impact your overall well-being, we can gain a clearer understanding of the complexities of your experiences.

She will help analyze your personal strengths and weaknesses, your approach to life, and the coping mechanisms you employ when confronted with challenges. This comprehensive understanding will serve as a foundation for us to set meaningful goals and formulate a tailored treatment plan aimed at achieving those objectives. By identifying your unique attributes and areas for growth, we can create a roadmap that aligns with your aspirations and values.

Furthermore, Melissa emphasizes the significance of family dynamics in individual development. She asserts that children thrive in nurturing environments that foster a healthy self-perception, as well as positive views of others and a higher power. In her work with children, she recognizes that parents and caregivers play a crucial role as catalysts for change. Therefore, she dedicates time to equipping them with the tools necessary to support their child’s growth effectively. This involves not only providing guidance on effective parenting strategies but also fostering open communication and emotional connection within the family unit.

Melissa firmly believes that the counseling process reaches its fullest potential when spirituality is integrated into the therapeutic journey. She invites God into the transformative process and utilizes the Bible as a framework for understanding the world and one’s place within it. This spiritual dimension can provide clients with a deeper sense of purpose and connection, enhancing their overall healing experience. Nevertheless, she respects the autonomy of her clients and will incorporate this spiritual perspective only with their explicit consent. This ensures that the counseling process remains client-centered and aligned with individual beliefs and values.

Melissa’s professional background includes training from Cornerstone University, where she developed a strong foundation in counseling principles and practices. Her education is further complemented by specialized training in various therapeutic modalities, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), PMTO (Parent Management Training Oregon Model), and DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy). These diverse approaches equip her with a versatile toolkit to address a wide range of mental health concerns, allowing her to tailor her methods to best suit the needs of her clients.
