Asha Upakrwoth is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Michigan who brings more than 10 years of experience supporting children, adolescents, and adults through a variety of life challenges. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Family Studies and her Master’s degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University. Asha began her journey as a therapist in 2012 and has continued to expand her clinical knowledge through ongoing education, professional training, and certifications.
Throughout her professional career, Asha has worked in both child welfare and therapeutic settings, providing support to individuals and families navigating complex emotional and life circumstances. Her experience has allowed her to develop a strong understanding of the unique needs of children, adolescents, adults, and their support systems. She is particularly passionate about helping children who have experienced trauma, as well as individuals experiencing anxiety and depression.
Asha takes a person-centered approach to therapy and believes that individuals are the experts of their own lives. She recognizes that, at times, people simply need someone to walk alongside them as they navigate a difficult season or transition. She strives to create a therapeutic environment built on genuine connection, trust, and rapport, meeting each person where they are and working collaboratively to develop healthy coping skills and strategies for managing life’s challenges. Asha also values bringing each client’s personality, strengths, interests, and values into the therapeutic process and enjoys learning from the individuals she serves.
Asha recognizes that faith and spirituality can be meaningful sources of strength, hope, identity, and connection for many individuals. When clients identify faith or spirituality as an important part of their lives, she is committed to honoring and incorporating those values into the therapeutic process in a respectful and client-centered manner.
In May 2026, Asha completed training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), an evidence-based treatment designed to help children and their support systems process traumatic experiences and develop healthy ways of coping. She is committed to continuing her professional development by researching emerging studies, learning new therapeutic modalities, and pursuing additional training and certifications to better serve her clients.
Asha understands that seeking therapy can be an important and sometimes difficult first step. Whether an individual is working through trauma, anxiety, depression, a specific life challenge, or simply needs a supportive person to talk with, she is committed to walking alongside her clients throughout their healing journey. Her goal is to help each person recognize their strengths, develop effective coping skills, and create meaningful and lasting change.
Outside of her professional work, Asha enjoys spending time with her family and her two young children. She recently developed a passion for cooking and enjoys preparing home-cooked meals for her family. She also enjoys watching movies and spending time with her children. Asha has always loved traveling and looks forward to exploring more destinations in the future. For now, she enjoys visiting Michigan’s beautiful beaches and taking trips to nearby states.
