Josh is a passionate Limited Licensed Counselor who received his Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Cornerstone University. He has developed and continues to grow in his work as a mental health professional, walking alongside others to become the best version of themselves and fully live into who God created them to be. Prior to Josh’s educational journey in the mental health field, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Public and Nonprofit Administration from Grand Valley State University.
Josh has extensive experience working with kids, children, adolescents, and young adults. He was heavily involved with Campus Ministry at GVSU during his time as an undergrad student, has spent eight summers, including two years of year-round staff in a summer camping ministry setting, working in various capacities such as leadership development, discipleship, spiritual formation, as well as mental health wellness. Josh also has spent three years on staff at a local church in the kids ministry, focusing on leader development and discipleship.
In his approach to therapy, Josh believes that a strong and authentic therapeutic relationship is vital to the counseling process. Drawing from techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and other modalities, Josh seeks to meet the client where they are and come alongside them in a partnership that will benefit the overall well-being of the client. Josh’s relationship with Jesus is the core of who he is and how he operates from day to day, striving to reflect the life of Jesus and walking as he did. Josh’s hope is that each of his clients will feel fully known, seen, and valued.
Outside of his professional life, Josh finds time with his community deeply important and enriching to his life. He enjoys playing sports, exercising, and grabbing a cup of coffee and catching up. Josh and his friends are often making a pancake breakfast, playing games, or going on a fun adventure. Discipleship and mentoring a small group of high school guys is also important to Josh and fills his time.
