I love art therapy for the way it breaks down barriers faced in traditional talk therapy. Art making encourages expression of strong emotions that are difficult to put into words. Because it can be used with any age group, I love using it. It is especially helpful for those who have experienced trauma. Additionally, art therapy is inclusive. You don’t have to be “good” at art to benefit from its many advantages. Art therapy is not about the end product. The therapy is about the process of making art. This can make sessions more relaxing and enjoyable. But, that’s not all. Research is uncovering exciting proof of the benefits of art therapy.

I practiced for fifteen years as a Licensed Social Worker. Then I returned to school for two years to become a Licensed Art Therapist. I love how art therapy transform lives in powerful and sometimes unexpected ways. I currently work primarily with women ages 14 through 80. Many of my adult clients report that the process of art therapy (guided by a trained professional) is different than traditional talk therapy.
